Result of Changing Keywords
In August, I put up a new version of my website.
My objective was to double the visitor traffic and triple the number of
Enquiries by December 2003.
I said "The new
keywords - correctly used - should double the visitor traffic" and I
promised to keep you up to date on results.
In practice the new keywords have not yet changed the
number of visitors. There has been no drop despite the potential loss of
traffic from some old keywords no longer used; but equally there has no
been no gain - yet - from the new ones.
The immediate lesson is the time that must be allowed
for optimisation to take effect. It took some 3 weeks before the new
website appeared in the Google cache but even then that seems only to have
been an initial recognition of change. The new pages were not indexed
until a couple of weeks later.
Now the pages are indexed in most major search
engines but often still have low rankings. I expect this to improve over
the next month without further effort but I am also going to investigate
ways of boosting the site via strategic links with others.
We live in hope and will report again next month!
