Make your website statistics RELEVANT!

Website stats reports can be very confusing. Many reports seem almost designed to be unhelpful. Some are not so much reports as log files of undigested data.  As a result webmasters are often sceptical of their value and fail to use the information.

The first step is to know what you are looking for and  why.  Most web stats reports are provided free by the ISP as part of their hosting service.  But ISPs are mainly concerned about the quantity of hits on the server so that they can determine the system capacity requirements.  For the Marketer, the number of hits is totally irrelevant - we need to know about the number of visitors, where they come from and what they do on our site.
