for Search Engine Optimisation
Putting up a website without optimising it for
search engines is like buying a car and then not putting in the petrol.
You've made the investment but you need the fuel if it is going to go
anywhere.
Yet, probably the majority of UK sites have not been
optimised. Is yours one?
Checking your own site is easy. If you do not know how
you rank now on the major search engines for your keywords, then you have
certainly not optimised for them.
Checking your competitors can be very revealing - and
the cheapest way of gaining competitive advantage. If they haven't
optimised then the cost for you to win the business from them is a
fraction of what you would normally expect.
Here are the tell-tale signs:
- A Google PageRank below 5/10
- A Front 'Splash' Page before you get to the Home Page
- Use of Flash or other complex graphics on the Home
Page
- Use of Frames as a basic page element
- A Page title Meta Tag for the home page that says
either 'Home' or just the company name.
