Email Newsletters R.I.P.

It is perhaps too early to send out invitations to the wake but, at the least, you should look at what may take the place of most email newsletters.

RSS is the acronym for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary - depending who you ask.  RSS and Blogs ( for Web Log) are 2 expressions you will be hearing with increasing frequency.  They both use the same internet technology for distributing news, information and comment.

The advantages for the publisher are:

  1. No problems with spam filters or limit on data quantity

  2. Information can be seen throughout the web, so not limited to those with whom you already in contact

  3. Automatically creates links into your website from content using your own keywords

The advantages for the reader are:

  1. You can select and delete news feeds as you want without any prior contact with the publisher

  2. All news items from any number of publishers can be read in one place (using a news 'aggregator') either on the web or on your desktop.

  3. Information is always presented in a standard format allowing you to see titles, summary or full detail.
