Top 10 SEO companies for 2008
This is now my seventh annual survey of the top 10
SEO companies in the UK based on the rankings they have achieved for
themselves on Google UK, Yahoo UK and MSN UK. This provides an
objective measure of the ability of these companies to achieve top
rankings on the 5 phrases most searched for their industry and is
therefore a proof of their potential to help you.
Unfortunately Yahoo has now discontinued the old
Overture keyword tool that provided quantified information on the
number of UK searches for each phrase. In the absence of better
information, I have used the same 5 phrases as last year - namely:

This year I have made one key
change in the method of analysis. We can no longer to
pretend that the three top search engines are equal. The
latest data available shows Google has 79% of the UK search
market, Yahoo 8% and MSN 5%. So I have weighted the data
accordingly. The results are as follows:
4 of these companies -
highposition.net, servicewrap.net, ihaveawebsite-nowwhat.co.uk
and deeho.co.uk did not appear in last year's listing.
The above companies are clearly
able to help clients rank well in natural listings.
Remember though that the second part of a good web strategy is
to ensure your site converts visitors to customers effectively.
That may require a totally different set of skills. The
only overall measure of success is the Return on Investment
achieved by your website.
